and you grow up with that bullshit poetry
the kind that goes:
"at least we're under the same sky"
"at least we're watching the same moon"
"at least someone, somewhere, is wishing on the same star as you"

and if people write enough of that shit for you to read
you'll start to think that kind of thing is ok.
That settling is ok.
But I'm here to tell you it's bullshit.
Every last poem you ever read about being content with existing
on the same planet as the person you love who you will never be able to physically touch
is pure
unadulterated
bullshit.

Because it HURTS
and guess what, sweetie? It will never not hurt.
And pretending you can live happily knowing that you're on the same earth is both pathetic and stupid.
Don't you dare lie and say that even for a split second that offered you any kind of comfort
because I damn well know that those bullishit poems
by stereotypical heartbroken poets all drunk on sadness and busy rewriting every last "heart-wrenching" cliché in the book
are about as comforting as a picture your parents gave you of your dead dog
right after it died
because they thought a picture of the damn thing would help you cope with the fact that your dog is very much fucking
dead.

You are millions, billions of miles away from the person you love and guess what? They aren't looking at the moon or the stars or the sky or anything and even if they are I will bet my life that they aren't thinking about you while they're doing it.
They're not wondering if you're also awake at night
or if you ate enough
or if you're happy with your makeup today
They aren't wondering how you're doing
or if you're still clean
or if you're still drinking
or if you're fucking alive.

You may be under the same fucking sky but I can promise
they don't give a shit if you're still under this fucking sky with them
or if you're six feet in the dirt
and have been since god-knows-when.

It's all bullshit every last fibre of those poems and romantic principles are pure bullshit and anyone who finds comfort in them is a sad fucking wreck who truly has nothing left to cling to save for that one lonely little unchanging fact.

You may be under the same sky, but that only means something if they know it too, if they wish they could be with you too. The recognition of distance is only less painful when both parties are aware of it and yearn for its absence.

When it's just you that stays awake enough nights in a row
to fuck up your sleeping schedule
all hopped up on NyQuil and five capsules of melatonin,
well, fuck, then none of it means jack and, I'm sorry to say,
but you're just one sorry sentimental heartbroken son of a bitch.
More specifically, the one your distant loved one
doesn't give a shit about.

This has pissed me off for a really long fucking time now
